Real love is eternal!

Love is a great feeling. It is the emotion that makes the world go round. It is the feeling that makes many people suffer and rejoice. It is a feeling that makes us laugh and cry at the same time. Love is everything. It is the only emotion that can soften a hardened heart. Love can make enemies friends and friends enemies. Love can prevent wars. Love can start wars. Love can make us do crazy things. But what exactly is love?

Philosophers will never give you a simple answer. They will say love is a commitment and choice to be by someone and create a future together. Physicists will say its the exchange of chemicals; maybe the exchange of electrons. An Anthropologist will say love is the agreement to support each other for survival. A lustful person will define love as sex and the release of chemicals. A nun will say love is devotion and caring for others more than self. A believer will say love is God. Everyone has a different definition of love according to their expression of love. But the true definition of "Marital Love" is only understood by true lovers who have been together for a long time, having withstood the trials of life. 

That brings us to the real question. What is real love? In my definition, real love is when you plan to have a future with someone you enjoy being around with. You accept them for what and who they are now. You want to give your heart to them and let them nurture it. You trust them with everything. No secret exists between the two of you. You share your insecurities and aspirations, and help each other in areas that you need help with. Real love is not perfect, but real love is perfectly expressed by action. Real love is when someone repeatedly reminds you of God and guides you to Him. Real love is to guide each other to paradise and spend eternity together. Real love is Allah, and only His true believers can express it and understand it.

In its purest form, real love is unconditional. When the reasons for love and the reward are not present, the loving heart is always present. A loving heart will love you because it comes from within, and its based on the heart of the loved, not their outer appearance. Real love is sacrificing ourselves for the benefit of others. Real love is wanting and choosing to stay by and support our loved one when they give us every reason to leave. Real love is worth fighting for and only true lovers will fight for it. Real love results in marriage, as Prophet Muhammad said: "There is nothing better for two people who love each other than marriage."

People look for love in physical and material concepts but not its real place, the soul. The soul is the engine of life. It is our everlasting wavelength. It enables us to have hopes and dreams. It enables us to live. We should therefore take care of our soul and feed it with life when the physical body wants different things to indulge in. We should be careful and not love the one who does not love Allah. If they can reject the pure love of Allah, His mercy and blessings, they will surely reject us.

In summary, love is earned. Love is struggle. Love is steadfast. Love is reliance on God. Love is not obsessive. Love is intimate. Love is true sacrifice. Love does not corrupt. Love is purity. Love is fair. Love is difficult. Love is addictive. Real love is not replaceable. Real love does not decay. Real love is eternal. Real love results in marriage, and completion of half of our deen.
